Abstract
This media anthropology essay examines how refugees use WhatsApp Status Updates as a form of self-expression and connection. Based on a two months digital observation and interviews with two participants, the study highlights the crucial role of WhatsApp status in maintaining social relations, raising awareness, and fostering social change among displaced individuals. The paper argues that these media practices function as a form of expression, allowing refugees to voice their political agendas and raise awareness about perceived issues.
Methodology
This research employed a media anthropological approach and short-term digital ethnography. Data was gathered through a four-week online interaction, during which participants' digital activities were observed, and in-person meetings where interviews were conducted.
